What the ROLE Alliance Programme Offers

The ROLE (Responsive Open Learning Environment) Alliance Programme brings together strategic users, vendors, and researchers to develop personal learning environments for lifelong and workplace learning. Members gain early access to project documentation, author rights on the Showcase Platform, free workshops, and a direct channel to the ROLE Consortium. Benefits by Track

Users — students, teachers, institutions, and enterprises — can build personal learning environments on the platform, receive project deliverables ahead of public release, and access regular software updates.

Software developers get access to source code and documentation, author rights on the Showcase Platform, entry to Developer Camps, and distribution through the ROLE Widget Store.

Researchers gain early access to scientific publications, research-cooperation benefits, and frameworks spanning psycho-pedagogical theory, engineering methodologies, and accessible learning-service composition.

The Widget Enchantment Competition

The programme's flagship community event ran five Widget Enchantment Competitions. Each ran in two rounds: first, a specification stage where entrants submitted a description, screenshot, use-case, and prototype; then a two-month development sprint for finalists, supported by a ROLE Partner. Winning widgets were published to the Widget Store; developers received a €500 prize. Entries had to add value to a real learning scenario, build on ROLE technology, and conform to OpenSocial Gadget or W3C specifications.

Membership is open to anyone. Register at the ROLE Project website to join the Alliance Programme and access the Showcase Platform.
